The recurring problem at this end of the market is that the company selling an experience is often not the company delivering it. Charters, expeditions and private tours are commonly brokered, which is fine in itself - brokers carry real knowledge and access - but it changes who is answerable when something goes wrong. Establish early who the operator actually is, since that is who holds the licences, the insurance and the safety record worth checking.

After that, most disappointment traces back to two documents nobody reads. What is genuinely included, given that fuel, landing and berthing charges, crew gratuities, taxes and provisioning are frequently quoted separately and can move a headline price considerably. And the cancellation and weather terms, which decide what happens when conditions make the thing impossible rather than merely unpleasant. A well-run operator states both plainly and in writing before payment. Reluctance to put either in writing is itself the answer.
